About me

MY ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE
- I’m a management and strategy professor with a focus on management of creative and symbol intensive companies. After my graduation at Bocconi University I started teaching Economics. After one year as visiting scholar in the US @ Stern School of Business – NYU and after completing my PH.D. in International Business Law, in 1993 I have started teaching management at Bocconi and SDA Bocconi.
- During my years at Bocconi and SDA Bocconi, together with my colleagues, I have started new courses at undergrad, graduate, master level on fashion and luxury management, a subject that at that time was not taught in business schools. I have created the first international Master in fashion, experience and design management MAFED in collaboration with the Altagamma Foundation, now at its 22nd edition. I was a pioneer in designing online courses on demand: in 2014 the course for the American platform Coursera “managing fashion and luxury companies” and in 2021 the course for Getsmarter on sustainable fashion strategy and branding.
- I have always had a special interest and passion about China. In 1997 I coordinated an EU funded project @ Bocconi: Asia Link “Curriculum Development in Brand Building in China” in collaboration with Fudan University in Shanghai. Teaching @ Fudan was a great experience. Then I had my book about fashion and luxury management published In Chinese. I went back to China and HK many times to research, teach and consult.
MY PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
- My experience as professional focuses on both consulting and serving as an independent member for corporate boards. As consultant I have worked with fashion and lifestyle companies on their positioning and growth strategies helping them to define their brand bible, their mission and purpose, their competitive set, their strategic plans also in terms of sustainability (objectives, metrics, roles). As a board member of listed companies I had the unique opportunity to see strategy in practice, learn about how to develop an organizational culture and how to reward and incentivize key people serving as President of Remuneration Committees.
